Everyone needs to read this. I see the effects you write about here in myself, but also in my students and the kids I coach, some of whom are as young as third grade. They have no patience, they have limited problem solving skills, and they are chronically sleep deprived. Moreover, some of the older kids I work with (high school aged) suffer from crippling anxiety and self-esteem issues due to things like cyber bullying and the "compare and despair" phenomenon of social media. And when I point out that their phones are largely to blame, they look at me like I've suggested they cut off one of their limbs. It makes me nuts, especially because I think they're aware that their phones are the issue, but they can't imagine life without them. It's incredibly toxic.
