As far as the guy who chucked a soda can at you, my guess is he likely doesn’t have full mental faculties either due to mental illness as you speculate, or, and sadly, this, too, is common, due to substance abuse. One of the unfortunate aspects of disability is it often goes hand-in-hand with substance abuse. People don’t get the support and/or treatment they need, so they self medicate with alcohol or drugs. I’ve seen it happen to friends. It’s heartbreaking.

Also, being disabled doesn’t make one immune to being an asshole lol. Someone may, in fact, retaliate against a person in a chair who throws canned beverages at them, and I while I would advocate for a peaceful solution, I can’t say that retaliation would be unjustified. I’m glad you took the high road. I also appreciate the question, and I welcome more like it.
