This was the hardest lesson I had to learn after my accident. Excellent writing! I saw so much of y own struggles in this, especially in the airport. I get the other end of the spectrum though. I roll up to the boarding gate, and without fail, the first question I get is, "Can you walk?" I usually respond with, "Yeah, but don't tell anyone. I'm in it for the close parking and big bathroom stalls."
